He rounded off a sublime start in the green and gold, characterised by crisp passing and darting runs,  by diving over the line in the 65th minute.

The number nine showed a clean pair of heals as he out-sprinted the Australian defenders to effectively seal the Test match for South Africa with 15 minutes left on the clock.

Jantjies was then replaced by Cobus Reinach, who made his first Springbok appearance since 2015.

Reinach also etched his name onto the scoresheet after the final hooter. His try secured a bonus point win for the Springboks.

Bonus points could prove decisive in the shortened version of the Rugby Championship due to the 2019 Rugby World Cup in Japan.

Winger S’bu Nkosi and lock Lood de Jager also crossed over the whitewash, as South Africa got their Rugby Championship campaign off to a perfect start.

Flyhalf Elton Jantjies kicked five conversions.

South Africa play New Zealand in Wellington next week.
