EGGHEADS: Can Liverpool return to the top?

Southampton v Liverpool

Southampton are alive and kicking in their quest to avoid relegation, the Saints edged Brighton 1-0 away from home to lift themselves 5 points clear of the relegation zone. I don’t think the Saints will get relegated this season, but with 7 games still to play anything can happen.

It’s all systems go for Jurgen Klopp’s men as the Reds look to deliver a first ever Premier League trophy to the Anfield faithful. Although this game looks like a done deal on paper, I think Liverpool might actually find it a little uncomfortable. Their form on the road leaves a lot to be desired whilst Southampton are yet to lose by a single goal when playing at St. Mary’s.

At the risk of being labelled a ‘censored, dictator-like publication who abhorrently despises Liverpool’ – as is the case, interestingly enough, with some readers - I wouldn’t be surprised to see this end as a draw. But I’ll side with Liverpool’s class and the fact that they should want these 3 points more.

Prediction: 1 – 2

Bournemouth v Burnley

Seems like almost a lifetime ago we were saying Bournemouth were challenging for the ‘best of the rest’ title. Although they started like a house on fire this season, they have failed to find any form in the latter part of the season.

The opposite is true of Burnley though, they had a torrid start to things this season before going on a little bit of a run at the start of 2019. Although neither are in form, Burnley aren’t great away from home while Bournemouth have managed to keep it respectful at the Vitality stadium.

Prediction: 2 – 1 

Huddersfield v Leicester

I cannot see past a Leicester City victory here. The foxes have found a bit of form and have managed to put together three wins on the spin. Huddersfield have had their impending relegation confirmed, it’s been one of those seasons for the Terriers.

I know the players will want to use the remaining six games to salvage pride, and of course it’s the professional athlete thing to say, but I think those players will be looking forward to the break and regrouping before they tackle the challenge that is championship football.

Newcastle v C Palace

I’m looking forward to this game as a neutral. I know Newcastle were defeated on Monday night against the Arsenal, but Rafa Benitez’s men are a completely different kettle of fish at St James’ Park!

The Magpies aren’t quite out of the woods as yet and will know how important these last couple games will be. Palace have been positive on the road, I know they lost to Spurs but given the emotion of the night, there was always only going to be one winner. Palace will look to counter but I’m not confident in their defence.

Prediction: 2 – 1 

Everton v Arsenal

Everton welcome Arsenal to Goodison in what should be the game of the weekend. Arsenal are still in the running to qualify for the Champions League after a noticeable absence. If you look at the fixtures facing Unai Emery’s men you have to say they have a favourable run of fixtures.

Everton are on a positive run and will go into this game full of confidence though, which will make for an incredible game.

Prediction: 2 – 3 

Chelsea v West Ham

Chelsea returned to winning ways against Cardiff in a game which, when I think of it, still annoys me. I don’t trust Chelsea at the moment with their sporadic attitude but against a West Ham side, who I don’t think remember what winning looks like, I can’t go against the Blues.
