Covid-19 cluster outbreak sees 31 test positive at Kaizer Chiefs
Kaizer Chiefs have asked the PSL to postpone its five upcoming matches as the club struggles to contain an outbreak of Covid-19 at its training ground.
A total of 31 players and staff have tested positive amid a surge in infections in Gauteng.
The games the Soweto giants want postponed include the ones against Cape Town City, Golden Arrows, Sekhukhune FC, Royal AM and Maritzburg United.
In a statement on Friday morning, Amakhosi said the outbreak has resulted in the temporary closure of its Naturena premises until next week.
“The club does not at the moment have sufficient players nor a technical team to constitute a team. We have appealed to the league to seriously consider the matter for the sake of everyone’s health and safety because there are many other people involved in organising a game,” it said.
The club says it will be embarking on contact tracing for primary contacts.
"We have instructed all players, members of the technical team and staff, including those who tested negative, who are primary contacts to quarantine as per Covid protocols.”
