Zuma’s bid to remove prosecutor in corruption case rejected
Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
Jacob Zuma's lost another bid to have the lead prosecutor in his corruption case removed.
The Pietermaritzburg High Court has rejected the former president's application for leave to appeal the judgment of his recusal application.
Zuma previously asked the court to remove Advocate Billy Downer from the case, arguing that it would prejudice him and deny his right to a fair trial.
That request was dismissed in 2024.
The same judge, Nkosinathi Chili ruled against the appeal this morning, saying he does not believe that any court will rule differently in the matter.

Zuma's counsel, Dali Mpofu says they will next petition the Supreme Court of Appeal in an effort to challenge Chili's ruling.
All attempts by the former president to remove Downer from the case have so far failed.
He was able to bring this fresh recusal application in the matter, as the previous judge in the case recused himself.
