Zuma: Young people today owe a lot to youth of 1976
Updated | By Chanelle Lutchman
President Jacob Zuma says young South Africans today owe a lot to the youth of 1976 who sacrificed their lives in Soweto for a better country.
Zuma had been speaking at an ANC Youth League Youth Month Celebration in Durban yesterday. He addressed thousands of supporters at the Growthpoint Kings Park Stadium telling them about the opportunities the ANC government has to offer.
Zuma said the youth sometimes fail recognise the correct ways to get officials' attention. He says resorting to violence and destroying public property is not the right way.
"There is absolutely no grievance that is too big to the extent that it cannot be raised and addressed through democratic means," he said.
Zuma says the ANC will always listen to the people.
"You must come up with innovative ways to reach out to young people and speak their language on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and other social media platforms," Zuma said.
"You must be found where young people are... at the sports fields, car washes, shisanyamas and other places of entertainment," he said.
