Zuma medical parole declared unlawful, ordered back to jail
Updated | By Steve Bhengu
Former president Jacob Zuma has been ordered to go back to jail.
The High Court in Pretoria ruled on Wednesday that the granting of medical parole to Zuma by former correctional services commissioner Arthur Fraser was unlawful.
Zuma had been sentenced to 15 months in prison for his refusal to testify at the commission of inquiry into state capture, but only served a portion of his sentence before being released in September on medical parole.
Following this a number of organisations, including the Helen Suzman Foundation, AfriForum and the Democratic Alliance (DA) then approached the courts seeking to set aside the granting of his medical parole.
Meanwhile, the Department of Correctional Services says it notes the judgment and it is studying the ruling.
