Former crime intelligence official Colonel Dhanajaya Naidoo, who has been in witness protection for eight years, testified in-camera for a second day on Monday.

Naidoo's evidence, which is set to implicate 45 people including senior police officials who are being investigated by the Hawks and the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (Ipid).

He told the commission how certain stories were ‘spun’ to prevent revelations of corruption in crime intelligence from being exposed and to get the journalists to write stories placing the unit in a good light.

He mentioned Tiso Black Star associate editor Ranjeni Munusamy in more detail, claiming she received R40 000 toward repairing her car in 2008.

Munusamy is currently on special leave amid an internal probe by Tiso Black Star into the allegations.

Naidoo said in another occasion a journalist was paid R20 000 to R25 000 to not publish information he had about crime intelligence.

He said the unit's former CFO Solly Lazarus gave him the money, which he gave to former crime intelligence boss Richard Mdluli at OR Tambo International Airport.

Naidoo could not recall the name of the journalist.
