The Western Cape premier wrote a tweet this morning which read: "For those claiming legacy of colonialism was ONLY negative, think of our independent judiciary, transport infrastructure, piped water etc."

It caused an uproar online, with Zille later saying sorry.

DA leader Mmusi Maimane's tweet in response read: "Colonialism, like Apartheid, was  a system of oppression and subjugation. It can never be justified."

DA's acting Western Cape leader, Bonginkosi Madikizela, also didn't mince his words.

"Colonialism - just like apartheid - was bad, and cannot be justified in any way. It's like you saying: "well its not all bad I was raped - look at beautiful baby I conceived," he said.

Western Cape ANC Secretary, Faiez Jacobs, says they're disgusted, but not surprised.

"Her apology is actually not accepted. We're going to call on our councillors and our members in legislature to take her to task. Because it does represent the white privilege that is existing in that party," he said.

DA spokesperson Phumzile van Damme spoke to Phat Joe on East Coast Drive. Listen below:
