KwaZulu-Natal Premier Sihle Zikalala says millions of rands will be needed to repair road infrastructure damaged or destroyed during recent storms in the Illembe District.

Some roads and bridges were washed away resulting in a total closure or limited access to routes.

Several people lost their lives during last month's floods.

Zikalala and Transport MEC Peggy Nkonyeni inspected roads in Ndwedwe and KwaMaphumulo on Wednesday.

”We are going to ensure we expedite the process of fixing the infrastructure. As you see here, we have to repair this bridge.

We will ensure that in the next three months, the process of ensuring the contractor is in place and the other work of constructing that bridge is undertaken and completed.

“The third step will be to attend to the road, because you would have seen that the road is not in a good condition.”
