Zero tolerance for illicit relationships in schools: KZN Education
Updated | By Bernadette Wicks
The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Basic Education says it wants to eliminate illicit relationships between teachers and pupils in its schools.
MEC Mthandeni Dlungwana led a visit to Amazizi High School in Bergville, yesterday - to follow up on reports that a teacher there has have been having sexual relationships with his pupils.
Dlungwana's since appointed a team of high-level departmental officials to investigate. He's given them a week to compile a report.
"Our main aim was that when we come here today, we would have served the teacher in question with a suspension letter. Unfortunately, we are unable to do that because we don't have the necessary information," he said.

Dlungwana says he's recently dealt with a number of cases of this nature.
"We cannot accept and allow our teachers to be sexually involved. That is prohibited. Our learners are handed over to us by their parents and our responsibility is to prepare them for the future," Dlungwana said.
