Women liberation continues: KZN ANCWL

The ANC Women's League in KZN says the struggle of total liberation for women continues.

It has delivered the message as South Africa marks Women’s Day today.

On this day in 1956, women of all races marched to the Union Buildings in Pretoria, in protest against pass laws.

Speaking in her capacity as the league's provincial secretary, social development MEC Weziwe Thusi says we must celebrate the progress made towards a free, non-racial and non-sexist country.

She says South Africa should be proud that it is second on a list of African countries with the most number of women in parliament.

Thusi says though this doesn’t mean there aren't pressing challenges that need attention.

"We must fight all social ills and the abuse of women, inequality, unemployment and poverty", she said.

"Let us all come together like the women of 1956 and ensure that we [women] are a winning sector", Thusi said.
