Winter family fun as Durban Boat and Lifestyle Show kicks off
Updated | By Portia Cele
What organisers have described as a swell way to spend a warm winter's day in Durban, the International Boat and Lifestyle Show begins today and ends on Sunday.
The two-part event will take place at the Durban Marina on Wilson Wharf and includes a display of boats, luxury yachts and catamarans. While the lifestyle section of the event will cater for outdoor enthusiasts and fishing fanatics.
Co-organiser, Barry Meehan says the vessels are not just from Durban, Cape Town, and Knysna but have also been imported from Australia.
“The boats are collectively valued at R80-million to R100-million this year – which is a record for us. This event is firmly entrenched as one of the key events of the July holiday season for the city, it showcases Durban’s unique outdoor lifestyle,” he said.
Boating World - which has partnered with the event since its inception - will be exhibiting four of its own luxury collection.
CEO Derrick Levy has spoken to Newswatch about the features on the cruises such as the latest installed technology and engine capabilities.
“The show itself is very diverse – we have a full professional team on our boats so that when people come they'll be taken on a tour of the boat. We'll show them a lifestyle that many people dream about and make it a reality,” he said.
Opening times for today and tomorrow are 9:30 am to 5:00pm; and those for Sunday are 9:30am to 4pm. Tickets are R70 for adults and R40 for kids over 12 and senior citizens. Entrance for children under 12 is free.
