Water authorities in the province say the worst affected areas are still facing dire conditions.

Hazelmere Dam, north of Durban is currently sitting at around 30% capacity.

The dam supplies parts of eThekwini and the Ilembe District.

Umgeni Water's Shami Harichunder says 30% water restrictions remain in place for now but these could be increased to 50% if there is no relief soon.

''Predictions thus far suggests that rainfalls are only due around November or December this year, meaning good rainfalls.

''For now and until then we will have to continue with the present situation, with water restrictions,'' he said.

Meanwhile, two dams in the Nongoma area including the Vuma treatment plant and Vokwana Dam have completely run dry.

Water trucks from nearby towns are now being used to supply the areas.
