A Durban metro cop, Ashley Diedericks was at the right place at the right time when he helped deliver a baby on a pavement in the CBD yesterday.
The 24-year-old traffic warden was called to assist after a woman went into labour at the corner of Dr Pixley Ka Seme and Dorothy Nyembe streets.
eThekwini Metro Police spokesperson, Parbhoo Sewpersad says he helped deliver a healthy baby boy. " His partners also went out to assist and stopped a passing ambulance who also came to assist him but by that time the delivery already took place."
Sewpersad says this was not Diedricks first time helping to bring a new life into the world. " He has indicated that being a fireman and having the experience he has delivered many babies as a paramedic in the fire department."
