WATCH: Journey through the history of Indentured Indians
Updated | By Lauren Beukes
1860 Heritage Centre curator Selvan Naidoo says the history of the Indian indentured labourers is important to the country.
"It speaks to our people's history in terms of their contributions.
"We have beautiful exhibitions and I think for the youth particularly, it's a way of telling a revisionist's history simply because alot of these stories are unheard of," he said.
Naidoo spoke at an event yesterday, to commemorate the arrival of indentured labourers 160 years ago. He says the best way to honour their past is to continue telling their stories.

Former eThekwini speaker, Logie Naidoo says they became the building blocks of the nation through the blood and sweat of slavery.
"We came from slaves who worked in the sugarcane fields and that three generations later, we made an indelible mark," he said.
"We have contributed to social cohesion, the economy of the country, to education and social welfare and we want to continue to building this non-racial democracy."
