Updated | By Bernadette Wicks
A serial rapist who terrorised women and girls in Verulam and Phoenix - north of Durban is due to be sentenced for his crimes today.
Durban High Court Judge, Shyam Gyanda found Amos Ngobeni guilty of raping 19 women and girls between 2011 and 2016.
Sentencing proceedings got underway yesterday, with the court hearing that Ngobeni could be facing life in prison.
Ngobeni has been convicted of three counts of rape in which the victims were minors and six counts in which he raped a victim more than once.
All nine of these convictions carry with them a minimum prescribed sentence of life.

Ngobeni's advocate, TP Pillay's, asked the court to show his client mercy - saying he's a first offender who supports his family, including his four young daughters.
Judge Gyanda, though, appeared unmoved and said you'd expect more - especially from a man with daughters.
