'Vandalism caused Howick water leak'
Updated | By Khatija Nxedlana
The uMgungundlovu District Municipality says aging infrastructure, vandalism and illegal connections are some of the problems they face in their water-saving efforts.
The municipality has been responding to reports of water leaks in the area.
Yesterday, the Witness newspaper reported that a water pipe in Howick has been left leaking for 17-years.
The municipality's Mbali Ndlovu has dismissed the report as an exaggeration.
''When it was reported again last week,we immediately sent our technicians to go and access the damage. They found out that it had been vandalised as there are parts that have been removed from the pipe.
''Our technicians are working on replacing parts of the pipe that have been removed,'' she said.
