Updated | By Algoa fm
The man accused of raping and killing UCT student, Uyinene Mrwetyana, has appeared briefly in the Wynberg Magistrate's Court in Cape Town.
The case against Luyanda Botha, has been postponed to Thursday.
He's alleged to have attacked the student inside the post office where he worked in August.
NPA spokesperson in the Western Cape, Eric Ntabazalila, says Botha faces one count of murder, two of rape and one count of defeating the ends of justice.
"His case was postponed to Thursday at the request of the defence, because they wanted to consult with him so that they can get instructions from him. We have given them the full docket and the post-mortem report, as well as the pictures relate to the post-mortem."
"We will come back on Thursday and he'll be given the indictment, as well the matter being transferred to the High Court," he said.
The accused indicated that he will not be applying for bail.
Mrwetyana's rape and murder revived the anti gender-based violence movement in South Africa with citizens calling on government to act and for society to also take responsibility.
