Universities permitted to have 66% of students on campus

Higher Education Minister, Blade Nzimande says universities can now have 66% of their student populations on campus.
Speaking at a briefing on Level 2 regulations on Wednesday, Nzimande outlined the cohorts of students that can go back.
"All groups that had been prioritised to return in Level 3, but couldn’t be accommodated due to the maximum campus carrying capacity having been reached.
"The second group will be students in all years of study who require laboratory and technical equipment to complete the academic year.

"The third group will be students in all years of study who require practical placements, experiential learning, workplace-based learning to complete the academic year.
"And the next category is all first-year students in all undergraduate programmes," says Nzimande.
Nzimande said all other students would continue their studies at home - until they are able to return to campus.

He says the plan for this academic year to end in February remains in place.
The new year for studies is expected to begin in March.
