Union details wage demands for striking Sharks Board employees
Updated | By Steve Bhengu
The union representing workers at the KZN Sharks Board says its striking members are holding out for a decent wage.
Workers affiliated to SALIPSWU whose strike has been on an off had put their action on hold after the MEC said he would help find a solution.
According to the union's Mxolisi Cekwana this did not happen - and they resumed their strike.
"What transpired with those wage negotiations - we've agreed in principle that employees will receive minimum wages of R10 000. Those who were earning 6,1% will get R10 000. Other employees who seamen - will be getting minimum wages of R13 000 a month," Cekwana said.
Due to the strike a number of eThekwini beaches have been closed to bathers. Find the list of affected beaches here.
