Union demanding SAA CEO to be reinstated
Updated | By Steve Bhengu
A union, representing cabin crew members, is calling for an urgent meeting with the government over the resignation of South African Airways CEO - Vuyani Jarana.
It wants him to stay on, saying that in the 18-months he'd been there, he introduced a plan to fly new routes, cut costs and turn the financial situation around at the embattled airline.
But SACCA's Gift Bilankulu says that due to political interference, Jarana was blocked from implementing the plan.
The association and NUMSA are now threatening to down tools if Jarana isn't reinstated.
"If the government pushes us, this is the direction that they are pushing us. We want him back as employees. Numsa and Sacca are a majority union. If they don't want to engage with us - then we are going to be left with no choice," Bilankulu said.
