uMhlathuze working working to restore stability in Richards Bay

After days of violent unrest, the uMhlathuze Municipality says it is working on a plan to ensure stability and a long-term solution for maintaining peace in Richards Bay on the KwaZulu-Natal north coast.

Truckers protested against unemployment this week by parking off their vehicles on the N2 near Nseleni township.

Earlier, residents also demonstrated calling for more action against crime particularly drug-related problems.  

The municipality's Mdu Ncalane says the city and residents need to work together on finding solutions.

"There are other talks that will be facilitated by the city mayor aimed at consolidating all the necessary stakeholders, including Saps, to come up with a long-term solution," said Ncalane.

Protests on the N2 and other routes around the city saw residents battling to get in and out of the city earlier this week.
