UKZN says its security and police are monitoring the university's Westville Campus after around 50 people stormed the premises yesterday.
In a statement UKZN management says about 50 individuals stormed Gate 2 on Varsity Drive which led to a confrontation between the group and security personnel.
It says security officers who tried to prevent the group from entering the campus were pelted with stones by the group.
Spokesperson, Normah Zondo, says with the help of private security Risk Management Services personnel later managed to bring the situation under control.
She says the guardhouse and a car belonging to the University were damaged during the incident.
Zondo says no injuries have been reported to the University.
