Two teens nabbed in Inanda attempted hijacking

Two teenagers are due back in court next month - after allegedly trying to hijack an e-hailing taxi.

Police say that on Sunday night, the taxi driver received a trip request from Newlands East to Inanda.  

He proceeded to the pick up point and collected the boys.  

"One passenger sat in the front and the other in the back. While driving in Inanda, he was pointed at with a firearm by the suspect who as at the back and ordered to drive towards Lindani. 

SAPS spokesperson, Thembeka Mbele says while driving towards Lindelani - the driver saw the police and stopped the vehicle.

"The driver informed the police of what happened to them," Mbele said. 

The 16 and 18-year-olds appeared in the Ntuzuma Magistrate's Court on Monday, on charges of hijacking and possession of an unlicensed firearm as well as unlicensed ammunition.
