Officers arrested two people after conducting an intelligence-driven operation on a vehicle spotted in Hluhluwe in northern KZN.

Spokesperson, Katlego Mogale says a high-speed chase ensued as the vehicle approached Nelspruit - in Mpumalanga.

Mogale says the two suspects were arrested and a rhino horn was found in their possession.

"They intercepted the vehicle that was going on its way to Nelspruit where they activated the Nelspruit K9. Upon meeting, the suspects fired shots at the members. No one was injured in the shootout but two suspects were arrested. In their possession, a rhino horn was found," she says.

Mogale adds further investigations led authorities to Ntambanana, near Richards Bay, where two more suspects were arrested.

One of suspects nabbed in KZN has been linked to another rhino poaching case.

Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife said earlier this week that at least 142 rhino have been poached in our province so far this year.

Meanwhile, a man who had flown in from Johannesburg has been arrested at the Hong Kong International Airport after he was found carrying more than eight kilograms of suspected rhino horns in his luggage.

The 37-year-old traveller, who had caught a flight from Cape Town to OR Tambo International Airport earlier, was also found carrying about 60 grams of suspected worked ivory.
