Two killed after vehicle overturns, bursts into flames
Two people have been killed after the bakkie they'd been travelling in overturned on the R34 about 2km outside Newcastle in northern KZN.
Emergency services say the bakkie was engulfed by flames after the accident in the early hours of this morning.
Firefighters had to extinguish the blaze before medics could approach the vehicle.
ER24's Russel Meiring says authorities are investigating the cause of the fatality.
"Paramedics assessed the two occupants that were found inside the vehicle, unfortunately both occupants sustained numerous fatal injuries. Due to the extent of their injuries they could not be identified and were later declared dead on scene.
"The cause of the collision is not yet known but local authorities as well as accidents and investigation units were on scene," he said.
