KwaZulu-Natal police have opened two inquest dockets after a man and a woman were found dead in separate incidents.
Both decomposed bodies were discovered on Wednesday, one in Pietermaritzburg and the other in Chatsworth.
KZN police spokesperson Nqobile Gwala says search and rescue teams and a police K-9 unit were called to a UKZN research farm in Mkondeni where the man's mutilated body was found.
"The decomposed body of an unknown male, believed to be in his 30s, was found in the bushes near the perimeter fence by the cleaning staff.
"An inquest docket was opened for investigation at Alexander Road SAPS. The circumstances surrounding the incident are still being investigated."
Gwala says the second discovery was made in Bayview in the south of Durban.
A woman was found dead in her home.
"On arrival they found a decomposed body of a 54-year-old woman inside her home. The deceased had no visible injuries.
"A post mortem will be conducted to determine the cause of death. An inquest docket was opened at Bayview for further investigation."
