Transportation of booze not allowed for next two week, govt says

Government has reiterated that the sale of alcohol remains prohibited for the next two weeks.

The National Coronavirus Command Council's (NCCC) briefed the media on Tuesday to further outline level 4 lockdown regulations. 


Co-operative Governance Minister Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma said the ban on the sale of alcohol will ease the burden on hospitals, as they are starting to see a strain at some facilities.


"Transportation is also prohibited except for industries that are producing sanitisers, soaps for industrial use and household cleaning products. It will also be permitted for warehousing and storage purposes."

Police Minister Bheki Cele says not adhering to these regulations can get you in trouble with the law.


"While law enforcement is up to the task, their aim is not to arrest and criminalise people in masks. 


"Non-compliance of these regulations and some other gazetted in the Disaster Management Act will result in a fine or imprisonment not exceeding six months or both."
