His accomplice in the matter has also been sentenced to life behind bars.

Sibusiso Ngidi and Khanyisile Khusi appeared briefly in Court B in the Pietermaritzburg High Court today.

The accused were found guilty of murdering a 17-year-old boy, a customer of Ngidi's, earlier this year.

Judge Anand Maharaj labelled the accused as being pure evil during his sentencing.

Maharaj said they acted out of greed when they took the life of an innocent child.

The court heard that Ngidi planned the murder due to a dwindling number of customers. He convinced Khusi that he needed to take someone's life to become a powerful healer.

A group then targeted the boy and buried his body.

Several months later, they exhumed the body and cut up the remains.

Ngidi was later caught trying to sell a skull, hand and other body parts along Marine Drive.

During his sentencing of Ngidi and Khusi, Maharaj says the murder outweighs the fact that they pleaded guilty to the crime and were remorseful.

They have been granted leave to appeal the sentence.
