Angry community members sat behind the double murder accused in the dock.
Wearing a denim jacket and glasses, Radebe told his attorney he wants his freedom.
He allegedly shot 33-year-old Nombuso and her mother following an argument.
Police say Radebe then fled the scene, but handed himself over to officers a few days later.
The magistrate has ordered that the accused be taken to a clinic to collect his chronic medication, as he will be held at Tongaat SAPS until his bail application next week.
