Tiger Brands closes Pretoria factory after listeria strain found
Tiger Brands has closed a factory in Pretoria after the discovery of strains of listeria.
The food producer made the discovery at a Pretoria meat processing factory.
Tiger Brands recently suspended operations at its Polokwane factory after it was fingered by government as the source of the outbreak of the disease.
A factory in Germiston was also closed after strains of the disease was found.
In a statement, the company says the samples from the Pretoria factory are being tested for listeria strain ST6, which have caused the deaths of at least 180 people.
"Although the level detected was well within the range of government standards for the presence of listeria, Tiger Brands has taken the precautionary measure of closing the factory and has instituted a product recall of all Snax products manufactured at the Pretoria factory with immediate effect."

The suspension of production at the three factories have also led to the permanent shutting of Tiger Brands' Clayville abattoir.
"Given the suspension of operations at the Polokwane, Germiston and Pretoria sites, which are the primary recipients of the production of the Company's Clayville abattoir, operations at the Clayville abattoir will be wound down with the objective of suspending operations completely at the end of March 2018."
