Those who felt Durban 'tremor' to submit experience – Council for Geoscience
Updated | By Steve Bhengu
The Council for Geoscience says the tremor felt by some residents in parts of Durban didn't register on its measuring system.
Locals in the northern and western parts of Durban and some in Pietermaritzburg have reported feeling the earth move for a few seconds in the early hours of this morning.
Seismologist and chief scientist at the Council For Geoscience, Michelle Grobbelaar, says it was a probably a shallow one.

"If it's shallow or if it's very localised it means that really only within a certain radius of people can actually feel it or it was very on the surface, especially in a region like KZN where there is a lot of sand so it tends to amplify the vibration.
"So there you could find the residents probably might have experienced something very shallow, they got amplified because of the geology."
She says they will collate the experiences of those who felt the tremor and make an assessment.
"What we would like to appeal to the public and anybody that actually felt it is if they could please log into our website and complete the questionnaires so that then we could do further investigations into this event."
