Teen killed in Ballito train accident

A 14-year-old girl has been killed after she was hit by a train in Ballito, north of Durban.
Reports from the scene indicate the child was walking to school this morning and was crossing the railway line at the Compensation Railway Station when the train slammed into her.

Netcare 911 paramedics say the teenager was still alive when they arrived on the scene. Spokesperson Athlenda Mathe says the child later died in hospital.
"At around 7am today, we got a call that a girl had been struck by a train. When we arrived on scene we found the girl in a critical condition, she was wearing her school uniform. We worked alongside paramedics from another emergency service on scene. We can confirm that the girl was stabilised and transported to a nearby hospital," she said.
