Teacher unions believe pupils well-prepared for final matric exams

With just over two weeks to go until matrics sit for their final exams, teachers' unions Sadtu and Naptosa say despite the disruptions to learning over the past two years, they believe the class of 2021 couldn't be better prepared.
Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga said on Friday it's all systems go for the assessments, which begin on the 27th of this month.
CEO of Naptosa in KZN, Thirona Moodley, says they have confidence in the department - despite last year's debacle around the leaking of some papers.
"We do believe that the teachers who are the professionals in the class would have made a plan to catch up and fill in any of the learning gaps that may have arisen as a result of 2020. I do believe that the provinces and KZN is ready to administer this exam and keep the integrity of this exam intact."
Sadtu's Nomusa Cembi admits this year’s matrics have had to pull out all the stops to adapt to new circumstances and a new way of learning under the Covid-19 pandemic.
"This year was the toughest for the Grade 12 class because the majority of the learners who are writhing this year mainly did not finish the Grade 11 syllabus.
"So there has been a lot of catching up to do and we commend them for dedicating their time cover. Although we feel it was their toughest time, we feel that they gave their best and we are hoping for the best in the exam."
