Suspect in Morningside hijacking could face additional charges

The 28-year-old man arrested for allegedly hijacking and kidnapping a local businesswoman could be facing more charges.
Asibonge Mdlalose made his first appearance in the Durban Magistrate's Court yesterday in connection with a Morningside hijacking caught on CCTV footage last week.
55-year-old Marta Rubilar was attacked outside her place of work on Friday. Footage shows the men bundling Rubilar into the car before driving off. She was later found unharmed in Newlands East.
Mdlalose is currently facing three charges - one of robbery with aggravating circumstances in connection with the theft of two cellphones. One of hijacking and one of kidnapping.

Public prosecutor, Surekha Marimuthu has told the court the state is looking at adding further charges. For now, Mdlalose is remanded in custody until next Tuesday for bail consideration. The state has indicated - it will be opposing his release on bail.
