Suspects linked to Chatsworth principal's murder in court

Dozens of angry residents from in and around the Bayview community - south of Durban - have gathered outside the Chatsworth Magistrate's court ahead of the appearance of three suspects linked to the murder of Gona Pillay.

The 63-year-old former educator was stabbed to death in her home last week by a group of men posing as home buyers.    

A 24-year-old man who was arrested on Thursday is due to make his first court appearance today on charges of murder and attempted murder.  

Pillay was laid to rest at the weekend. Her husband who was also attacked remains in critical condition in hospital.

Brandon Pillay with community policing forum says residents want to see justice.

"Residents from the Chatsworth community have come out in their numbers to speak to the prosecution, to ask for bail to be denied to the suspects in the matter," he says.

The police's Nqobile Gwala says a fourth and final suspect is still on the run.

"The suspect is still being sought and arrest is eminent. They face charges of robbery, murder and attempted murder," she says.
