The man was intercepted trying to flee in Kranskop on Saturday, when he opened fire towards police trying to resist arrest.

"The 26-year-old suspect, who is a security guard, shot and killed his 40-year-old colleague at New Formosa in Estcourt. The victim sustained gunshot wounds to the head and his body was dumped in the veld where police later found it," says the provincial police’s Jay Naicker.

"Following the initial murder, he went to a farm in Mooi River when he killed another security guard, 42. The suspect then proceeded to Bruntville in Mooi River where he shot and killed his ex-girlfriend's sister, 34, as well as three children who are aged between 5 and 13 years old.”

Naicker says they are investigating six counts of murder, one count of attempted murder and an inquest across three districts in KZN.

"After fleeing the scene, he went to his ex-girlfriend's place of employment on Alexandra Terrace where he fired several shots at the woman and bolted. The victim, 25, was conveyed to hospital where she remains in a critical condition."
