Suspect remanded in custody over attempted assassination of MK Party leader
A man accused of trying to kill MK Party leader Zanele Mbhamali and her husband in Ndwedwe has been remanded in custody pending trial.
A man accused of the attempted assassination of an uMKhoto we Sizwe (MK) Party district leader and her husband in Ilembe has been remanded in custody.
Police say Zanele Mbhamali and her spouse were travelling home to Ndwedwe when they came under attack last month.
Spokesperson Athlenda Mathe says a suspect, Velile Ntshangase, was arrested on Sunday.

Members of the KZN Political Killings Task Team received the docket on 10 July and immediately commenced investigations, which led to the arrest of Ntshangase.
Ntshangase appeared before the Ndwendwe Magistrate's Court today, facing two counts of attempted murder.
Police say a second suspect linked to the case was shot and killed by unknown attackers less than a week after the attempted assassination.
