Officers were monitoring the funeral of Lucas Mazibuko.

Mazibuko was one of seven people killed at a luxury home in Scottsville.

The gang is suspected to be behind the rise in murders, rapes and hijackings in the area.

Police spokesperson, Thembeka Mbele says a 35-year-old suspect was arrested in the Springville area in Highflats on Sunday after he was found in possession of a stolen vehicle.

"The investigation conducted by police revealed that the vehicle was stolen on 13 September 2021 at 14:00, whilst parked on Percy Osborne in Morningside."

"The suspect was placed under arrest for possession of a stolen property. He will be profiled to check if he is linked to other serious cases committed in Highflats and in the province."

Police were placed on high alert ahead of the funeral, this past weekend, for Sphelele 'Ntsuntsu' Mkhize - an alleged gang mastermind.

A voice note, warning of mass hijackings in honour of Mkhize, who was also killed in Scottsville - had been widely shared on WhatsApp.
