Updated | By Jarryd Subroyen
KZN Education is partnering with the Department of Health and SAPS to tackle substance abuse in local schools.
Officials will carry out awareness programmes, random searches and health checks at KZN schools in the coming months. The programme is aimed at improving the safety of children.
An anti-drug campaign was held at the Imbali sports field in Pietermaritzburg, yesterday. MEC of Education on the province, Mthandeni Dlungwana says the move is aimed at raising awareness among pupils.
"We are raising awareness among our learners so that they can see that drugs are problem, not only for them but for society at large", he said.
"As such part of this means including various stakeholders within our society", Dlungwana said.
