Students urged to donate blood during holidays
Updated | By Jarryd Subroyen
With exams now over, the South African National Blood Service is asking students to take some time out to give blood.
The services Sifiso Khoza says pupils and university students generally contribute more than 40% of the blood that is used to save lives.
"To all learners who may be listening, please come forward and find 30 minutes to donate blood knowing that you might be giving someone else a chance to look forward to a great 2018," he says.
Over the last month or so, blood stock levels dipped considerably as students were preparing for and writing the year’s final exams.
Khoza says students who are eligible can pop in to their nearest blood donation centre. He says they will be carrying out blood drives throughout the festive season.
"We have upcoming blood drives planned for major shopping centres. For anyone else who would like to know where they can visit us, they can phone us on our toll free number - 0800 11 9031," Khoza says.
