Stricter water measures for Ethekwini
Updated | By Khatija Nxedlana
eThekwini is set to implement stricter water restrictions in areas hardest hit by severe drought conditions.
Water levels at the Hazelmere Dam supplying areas north of Durban have dropped to 29%.
Officials say areas including Waterloo, Verulam, La Mercy and Tongaat are among those that will be affected.
The Hazelmere Dam Water Works is reducing production from 45-mega litres a day to 30-mega litres.
Water authorities say many consumers are still not reducing their consumption in an effort to save the resource.
Meanwhile, Umgeni Water will present its annual performance report for the last financial year this morning.
While it's highly concerned over the drought spokesperson Shami Harichunder says the utility has performed well this year.
''The organisation has received a clean audit from the auditor general's office and this is something to be quite proud about.
''The organisation is also in a strong financial performance,'' he said.
