Storm causes financial loss for Durban businesses

The storm that lashed parts of KZN on Tuesday dealt a major blow to Durban's economy.
The Durban Chamber of Commerce says many businesses had to shut down as they focus on repairs.
"We have had businesses report that the storm has caused extensive damage both to their property and in terms of loss to productivity, and being accessible," the chamber's Dumile Cele says.
Cele says business owners are working hard to get back on their feet.

"We have received reports for devastation to big businesses and manufacturers, especially in the south basin of Durban. We have received many reports from small businesses who are finding it absolutely impossible to remain operational," she says.
Cele says they are busy setting up a programme to assist businesses.

This includes a call centre where businesses can call in and state their needs. The chamber has also called on businesses to assist those who have been affected by the storm by donating food, clothes and building supplies.
