The KZN Arts and Culture says they are still waiting for DNA results to confirm the identities of the two girls. The family have not yet been able to bury them. The maidens had been part of a group travelling in a taxi when it burst into flames near Pomeroy in the Midlands.

They had been travelling from a rehearsal ahead of the annual Umkhosi woMhlanga which got underway in Nongoma yesterday. The death toll from the crash increased to seven earlier this week.

Organisers of the 2019 Reed Dance say their focus is on safety.

The Zulu Royal Household’s Prince Thulani Zulu says government has become more involved.

"Our priority is the safety of maidens and in achieving this the Department of  Arts and Culture has joined forces with the Department of Transport to roll out a safety plan", he said.

"This includes the inspection of all vehicles transporting the maidens", Zulu said.
