Stage 2 load shedding to continue on Friday
Updated | By Jacaranda fm
Power utility Eskom says it will implement load shedding for a second consecutive day on Friday, despite the successful return of four generation units on Thursday.
The rolling blackouts began on Thursday morning after the power grid took a knock.
The power utility's spokesperson Sikonathi Mantshantsha says the system remains under pressure due to a number of unit breakdowns.
“Eskom teams have successfully returned four generation units to service today. This, however, is not sufficient to stave off load shedding at this point.

“Staying on Stage 2 loadsheding will also assist us in preserving our emergency generation reserves, namely diesel and water.”
Stage 2 load shedding will resume at 8am on Friday.
“Breakdowns this week have removed more than 13 500MW of capacity from the system, while planned maintenance stands at 5 000MW of infrastructure.”
Mantshantsha adds: “Eskom is working hard to return as many of these generation units to service.”
