Springfield Park crash claims a life
Updated | By Portia Cele
An investigation is underway into the cause of a fatal crash in Durban's Springfield Park area last night.
Emergency services say a vehicle with two occupants veered off the road and crashed into a construction site near the intersection of Sea Cow Lake and Inanda roads.
Rescue Care's Garrith Jamieson says the vehicle then caught alight.
"On assessment, paramedics found that the driver had sustained critical injuries and was stabilised on scene by advance life support paramedics before being rushed to hospital. However, the passenger sustained fatal injuries. There was nothing more paramedics could do for him and he was declared dead on scene," Jamieson said.

Meanwhile, the N2 is closed between Harding and Kokstad, south of the province. A heavy-duty vehicle overturned - blocking the entire freeway. One carriageway has since been re-opened.
