Special voting at most KZN voting stations incident-free: IEC
Updated | By Shaun Ryan
The Independent Electoral Commission in KwaZulu-Natal says the first day of special votes has got off to a relatively smooth start.
Acting provincial officer, Ntombifuthi Masinga addressed the media at the Provincial Results Operations Centre in Mayville.
She says voting at most stations kicked-off without issue this morning.
But several areas were affected by service delivery protests. Masinga says incidents have since been resolved and operations are continuing.
Masinga says IEC staff were prevented from reaching some voting stations in KwaMaphumulo in the iLembe District.
"Our staff were locked at KwaMaphumulo Municipality - together with the area managers that were carrying materials that should have been delivered in all voting stations. Swift action by the SAPS ensured that we managed to unlock that situation."

Masinga says the staff then delivered voting materials to all the voting stations.
More than 102 000 applications for special votes were approved in KZN, with around 70 000 being home visits.
Special votes will continue tomorrow.
