These applications close at 5pm on July 8.
The IEC's Kate Bapela says there will be receipts which will serve as proof that a person registered for a special vote.
''Once the process of applying for a special vote closes then the chief electoral officer must consider all the applications and ensure that anyone who qualifies is able to be given permission because you don't just rock up at our voting stations and say you are going to cast a special vote.
"There will be a receipt or a document that you will get from us,'' he said.
