Twenty-two-year-old Vishay Singh of Port Shepstone is fighting for his life following the incident in Marburg.

Police say he was on the road near the gate of his house when two drivers ploughed into him.

They apparently made a u-turn and tried to run him over again, but his brother-in-law rushed to his rescue.

Singh's sister, Vashna Moolchand says her brother, who has yet to regain consciousness, suffered injuries including severe brain damage, fractures to his ribs and legs, and a punctured lung.

“Everyone came and saw him and said their goodbyes, but we started to pray,” Moolchand said.

“When the doctor returned, I said, you said nothing can be done for my brother but every time I speak to him and call out to him, he squeezes my hand.”

“So, then the doctor said to me, are you sure, can show me. I took the doctor in the room and said Vishay you need to squeeze my hand, let the doctor know that you are here with us. That is when they changed their minds and said we are going to give him a chance,” Moolchand added.

Moolchand says Singh has been moved to another hospital where he's currently being assessed by a neurologist.

The main concern is his brain surgery because he has not regained consciousness, he has not opened his eyes. The neurologist says they will be running tests to see what can be done,” Moolchand said.

She continued, “Everyone says he needs a miracle right now, and only a miracle can heal him. If a prayer can move mountains, then it can bring my brother home. We appreciate all prayers.”

Singh has recently qualified as a member of the South African National Defence Force.

Moolchand says they don't know what prompted the attack on her brother.

KZN police say the two suspects will be formally applying for bail in the Port Shepstone Magistrate's Court today.

They're facing attempted murder charges.
