South Africa registers 23 000 new Covid cases

South Africa has recorded a total of 23 884 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours.
In a statement on Tuesday night, the National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) said the increase represents a 34.9% positivity rate.
A further 24 coronavirus-related deaths have been reported, bringing total fatalities to 90 172.
Gauteng accounted for the most cases recording 8,685, followed by KwaZulu-Natal with 5,205 new cases.
"The majority of new cases today are from Gauteng (36%), followed by KwaZulu-Natal (22%). Western Cape accounted for 13%; Eastern Cape accounted for 7%; Free State and North West each accounted for 6% respectively; Mpumalanga accounted for 5%; Limpopo accounted for 3%; and Northern Cape accounted for 1%." the NICD said.
There have been 599 new hospital admissions.
